Zain Group, the parent company of mtc touch, has donated UD$100,000 to ‘Akhdar Dayem’, the Lebanese environmental campaign to preserve the nation’s green spaces, launched by the Lebanese Ministry of Interior and Municipalities in collaboration with the economic committees and the civil society.
The funds will contribute to the purchase of 50 firefighters 4x4 trucks – knowing that the 3 firefighting helicopters were already bought - estimated at around 6 million dollars. These trucks will be handed to local municipalities in villages that are most likely threatened by fire breaks in order to help them intervene at the right time to contain the fires. Indeed, during these past years, Lebanon’s nature had suffered from real natural disasters as series of fires had burst in vast surfaces of forests, groves of fruit trees and fields, across the Lebanese territory.
The Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Mr. Ziad Baroud received a visit from mtc touch General Manager Mr. Claude Bassil, representing ZAIN Group CEO Dr. Saad Al Barrak, who handed him the check with the contribution at the ministry’s premises in Sanayeh, in presence of the campaign’s public relations officer Mr. Talal Makdessi. The minister also thanked ZAIN Group for its contribution and support of “Akhdar Dayem”, highlighting that “this initiative expresses how much neighboring Arab countries are attached to a green Lebanon and are interested in preserving its environment, like any Lebanese would”.
From his end, Zain CEO, Dr. Saad Al Barrak, underlined the Group’s commitment to preserving and protecting the environment, commenting, “We need to preserve and protect the environment by all possible means maintaining the wonderful nature of this country.”
Dr Al Barrak also said that Zain’s contribution was a gesture of appreciation for Lebanon. “It is very important for Zain to stress its full commitment to Lebanese society, offering its support, not only in terms of mobile telecommunication services but also by social and environmental activism,” he added. “We congratulate the Ministry of Interior for pushing the Akhdar Dayem campaign, one that will assist preserving Lebanon’s rich, yet endangered, environment.”
