Nawras sheds light on the role of total consolidation to drive growth and meet customer needs during SAMENA conference

Mobilk - Nawras, Oman’s customer friendly communications provider, sponsored the SAMENA Telecommunication Conference last week entitled ‘Beyond Connectivity 2012’. During the two day event, the company highlighted the role of major telecommunication partnerships and mergers in the last few years which have enhanced customer value and spurred industry growth.

In his welcome speech, Ross Cormack, Nawras Chief Executive Officer, expressed his gratitude to Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) for their continuing guidance and support, and welcomed the Government’s encouragement of operators to provide better services and improve efficiency when they recently announced they would free up various frequency spectrums.

Cormack addressed participants from over 14 countries during a panel discussion on shareholder value, sector strategy and capabilities; other panelists included Chief Executive Officers from OmanTel, Friendi, Bahrain based Batelco and Kalimat from Iraq. “Mega mergers in the last few years by regional powerhouses have emphasized the key role of total consolidation in creating growth as the industry focuses on and is driven by customers. The ICT (Information & Communications Technology) industry has and will continue to be characterised by partnerships and consolidation, resulting in larger organisations which can better serve and create customer value thereby driving shareholder value. Instead of competing with Over The Top Providers (OTTPs), we should collaborate and partner with them to fuel sustainable growth,” he said.

Cormack went on to add, “People are our business.  They are at the center of everything we do. At Nawras and in Oman, we play an important role in promoting the many advantages of connectivity by introducing technology and services that meet the varied and growing needs of individuals and businesses.”

Ahmed Abdullah Al Abri, Nawras Head of Radio Planning stated during a panel discussion entitled ‘Open Access LTE Scheme and the Future of 4G’, “Solutions are needed to ensure compatibility to build a suitable LTE technology infrastructure giving operators the opportunity to provide affordable rates for customers.” He added, “As a new generation of prospective customers enters the market and drives rapid and sustained growth in the mobile sector, Nawras continues to contribute to the transformation of the telecommunications landscape in Oman and setting the benchmark in best-in-class service. This has been achieved by our steady focus on the customer experience and introducing a series of firsts to enrich the lives of people by bringing the best of modern telecommunications wherever they live or work.”

Al Abri went on to say that Nawras strives to excel in its operations in efforts to continuously elevate quality of service by investing in infrastructure, technology and people. “We will continue to upgrade our network to further provide excellent, caring and pleasingly different services to the widest number of people across the Sultanate,” he said.

A member of the SAMENA Council, Nawras, a Qtel Group Company is Oman’s fourth largest company by market capitalisation and its integrated services providing the widest network coverage in the Sultanate, covering about 98% of the population by 2G EDGE network combined with 53% of the population for 3G and 87% of households with home broadband.
