Ma’an News Agency chooses al-Jaber as one of the leading business figures

Ma’an News Agency and Radio has chosen Zain Levant and Jordan CEO Dr. Abdel-Malek Al-Jaber as one of the top 5 leading business figures in Palestine.

Ma’an, a comprehensive Palestinian news network, said the list was a result of an online survey of the most prominent personalities and institutions in Palestine for the year 2009. It said on the list along with Dr. al-Jaber were Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, Businessmen Munib and Sabih al-Masri, and Mr. Omar Abdul-Razeq. 

Announcing the survey’s results, Ma’an Director General Ra’ed Othman said the list was voted by internet users who represent 32% of the Palestinian society, and was subject by many rules and guidelines to ensure objectivity.

Mr. Othman said participation in the online survey’s 16 categories was beyond expectations, adding that half a million users cast their votes from around the world.

Dr. Abdel-Malek Al-Jaber, who took over as CEO for Zain Levant and Jordan last July, has a long record of accomplishments in Palestine’s economic sector, as well as in social services and development.

Before joining Zain, Dr. al-Jaber served as Palestine Telecommunications Group Deputy Chairman and CEO (2003-2009), during which he supervised its restructuring in 2003 – a move which raised its profit from $15 million to $100 million in 2005. He also supervised listing the company in the Abu-Dhabi stock market.

During his tenure, Dr. al-Jaber laid the foundations for corporate social responsibility in Palestine through some of the most important initiatives and projects in support of education and increasing internet penetration, and in support of excellence and creativity in the Palestinian society.

On the regional level, Dr. al-Jaber has overseen the establishment of VTEL Holding, a UAE-registered company with a one billion dollar capital. He is also the founder of Rafah Bank to support small enterprises in Palestine.

Dr. Al Jaber is a graduate of Jordan University of Science and Technology, McGill University - Canada, North Western University- Kellogg School of Business Administration, USA, and International School of Management, Paris. He holds a DBA, MBA as well as an BEng and MSC in Engineering. He is a recipient of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed Al Maktoum “Best Arab Manager Award for Excellence in Management” for the year 2001, as the leading business executive in Palestine.
