In a tribute to the talented youth of Qatar, Qtel hosted its “Fourth Annual Young Talent Event” for 150 guests at the Diplomatic Club in Doha.
This celebration of inspiring young people and their achievements saw the presentation of a series of awards to students, developees and trainees of the major telecommunications company. Speakers included Dr. Nasser Marafih, Qtel CEO, and Ali Shaher, Qtel’s Career Development Manager. In attendance were Qtel COO Nick Dent, H.E. Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al-Thani, Executive Director of Group HR, Qtel, senior managers of the company, lots of young talent (developees, trainees and students), their proud parents, and representatives from Higher Education Institute, College of the North Atlantic, Stenden University, and Doha Independent Secondary School.
The annual Young Talent Event recognizes the achievements of young people across Qatar, bringing together representatives from universities, secondary schools, and Qtel management. Organized by Qtel’s Group HR, the evening provides a forum where Qtel leadership can share their vision to make Qtel into Qatar’s preferred choice for world-class communication services. The event also provides an important insight into the major opportunities for career development offered by Qtel, both within Qatar and across the Qtel Group’s growing international footprint.
The evening kicked off with a video presentation on Qtel’s recent brand refresh campaign, “Fuel your Senses.” Also on the agenda were remarks by students who participated in Qtel’s Work Ready Programme, launched by Talent Development in February. Continuing with the themes of excitement and adventure, two young Qataris who recently travelled the Amazon rainforest treated guests to an action-packed view of their jungle journey, followed by a question-and-answer session.
The Young Talent audience was also treated to a presentation by Asma Al Thani, a Qtel-sponsored student at Virginia Commonwealth University, who discussed the topic of “Inspiration” aided by a video she created especially for the event.
Qtel presented a number of outstanding attendees with awards for their performance and academic achievements. A highlight of the evening was Dr. Nasser Marafih’s bestowal of the “CEO Outstanding Academic Achievement Award” to three students with GPAs of 3.8.
“We are always looking for new ways to reach out to youth in our community,” says H.E. Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al-Thani. “Identifying and rewarding creativity and innovation are central to our employment approach at Qtel. With the Young Talent Event, we have found a way to encourage these key attributes in young Qataris, who, we hope, will consider working with us in the near future at Qtel.”
Qtel has firmly established itself as an employer of choice for new graduates in Qatar, and offers potential employees a unique opportunity to reach their career goals and aspirations. In particular, the company’s major growth of recent years – establishing a presence in 17 countries and moving into advanced Broadband technology have attracted the attention of ambitious young nationals.
Qtel’s Qatarisation program has also delivered strong responses in recent years, with the majority of senior positions now occupied by Qatari nationals.
