Mobilk - The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has published a new webpage that allows the public to view the level of electromagnetic emissions from telecommunications masts. The move came after the past decade saw a rapid increase in the use of wireless radio technologies and services, and the establishment of several base stations close to residential, public and business areas. This raised some concerns by consumers as to the potential health consequences of radio emissions.
Telecommunications service providers should, under the provisions set forth in the licenses granted to them by TRA, ensure that emissions from their radiocommunication equipment and masts are within the limits set by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). These emissions emerge from diverse sources, including TV and radio broadcasting, wireless telecommunications systems in government and private companies and organizations, as well as the use of emissions in the field of maritime, aerial and radar communications.
"TRA has launched an interactive webpage that allows the public to view the level of emissions from telecommunications masts and equipment in residential, public and business areas, and compare them with the ICNIRP’s standards. This will help consumers in the Kingdom of Bahrain be aware of the rates of mast emissions and ensure that they do not exceed these standards." Says TRA’s Technical & Operations Director, Mr. Mohammed Alnoaimi.
"After conducting approximately 2,000 measurements in areas close to and surrounding telecommunications masts and equipment during the period from June 2015 to November 2016, the results of the measurements showed that the percentage of emissions from all masts and equipment does not exceed the limit set by ICNIRP in any of the areas measured for any frequency band." He added.
