Mobilk - In their annual benchmarking study to analyse the network in key populated areas of the country, Ooredoo has emerged as superior for mobile network speed and quality of service. Conducted by Global Wireless Solutions (GWS), the test covered three key areas of Oman; Muscat, Salalah and Sohar, for both indoor and outdoor coverage.
The GWS report showed that mobile data performance for 3G and 4G (LTE) has improved beyond expectations in these areas. The results came after the leading US-based network benchmarking firm completed an extensive competitive assessment on Oman’s mobile data, SMS and voice services between 27 January and 21 February 2016.
Ooredoo’s network has seen a 60% increase in 4G coverage over the last 12 months, a 70% increase in overall network capacity and a doubling of capacity in several hotspot locations across Oman. This increased capacity allows a greater number of users to stay connected and accommodates customer demand for high bandwidth services, such as video streaming, downloads and online gaming.
Using the latest techniques available on 3G and 4G technologies, Ooredoo has been able to significantly boost speed and ultimately, customer experience, when streaming or using the internet. This boost has also allowed Ooredoo to provide some of their recent inspiring offers; including Free Whatsapp using the More Credit recharge, Ooredoo Mondays, giving exclusive ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free’ deals, and for business customers, the popular Shahry Business Packs, which come in a range of options to suit every business size, from SMEs to large government organisations.
Commenting on the results, Greg Young, Ooredoo Oman CEO, said: “We are very proud to have our quality of service tested and validated by such a renowned and respected independent testing institute and we wanted to share these with our customers. The results demonstrate the positive impact of our significant network investment on our customers’ quality experience. In fact, the completion of rolling out our LTE 800 spectrum in March, thanks to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), means that Ooredoo subscribers are now enjoying even faster speeds and better quality than those set out in the GWS report.”
Young added: “At Ooredoo we constantly challenge ourselves to do better, assess how we can deliver an enhanced service and not only meet our customers’ needs but exceed them. The results of this rigorous independent test validate our efforts and inspire us to constantly push forward."
Dr. Paul Carter, CEO of Global Wireless Solutions commented: “At GWS, we share Ooredoos commitment to improving network quality by accurately measuring performance in real-world environments. To make the results of our testing as clear and meaningful as possible, we rank networks using our OneScoreTM scoring system, which combines in-depth network testing data with a real understanding of how consumers are actually using their mobile device connections. Ooredoo’s network not only came first in Oman using our OneScoreTM ranking for mobile data performance, but also topped our overall OneScoreTM ranking which looks at both voice and data performance. Throughout our testing we have been consistently impressed with the network performance we recorded on Ooredoo’s data and voice networks, making it a clear winner.”
Ooredoo’s LTE 800 spectrum will continue to dramatically improve 4G coverage and speeds, and eliminate battery life issues previously associated with enabling 4G on smart devices. Today, Ooredoo’s network data speeds compare extremely favourably with other countries and its mobile network geographical coverage is high when measured against other countries of similar size, reaching out to serve customers even in sparsely populated areas.
