  • TRA Joins Forces with Huawei to Establish Vision for National Broadband Networks

Mobilk - The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in association with Huawei – a leading global ICT solutions provider – will stage the United Arab Emirates’ first Huawei Broader Way Forum 2014 to examine how national broadband initiatives are expected to transform the regions socio-economic landscape in the years ahead. The full-day conference will take place at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Dubai, UAE on April 29, 2014.

“Information and communication technologies are advancing at breakneck which in turn is ushering in an entirely new era of digital connectivity across the region. In the UAE, both the government and the ICT sector as a whole is committed to developing the nation’s digital economy and ensuring that  necessary infrastructure is in place to expand broadband access to greater numbers than ever before,” said H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General, TRA.

“The UAE is acutely aware of the benefits of ICTs and how pivotal universal broadband access is to driving socio-economic growth. This is one of the motivations behind being staging this event as the strategic dialogue that will take place between the government representatives, ICT experts and industry stakeholders present will be pivotal to collectively achieving the UAE’s digital agenda. Working alongside Huawei is a great opportunity and we look forward to the event with great promise,” he added.

Under the theme “National Broadband Networks", this year’s forum will investigate the role of national broadband networks in driving economic transformation, the current state of UAE broadband infrastructure and provide insights on how governments and businesses can work together to maximize the public value of such infrastructure policies

National broadband networks (NBNs) have been embraced by governments across the globe as a tool to increase national competitiveness and drive economic growth through the provision of universal high-speed communication services. Due to the high number of parties involved, NBNs can take several years to implement and require substantial financial investment.
