In continuation of its corporate social responsibility projects, and as part of the "Origin" initiative which it launched last March, addressing water problems in 7 governorates, Etisalat Misr announced its sponsorship of the awareness campaigns that Abou El Nomros Environmental science Center for 500 students from 6th primary stage. 10 field trips were organized in cooperation with the Center to raise awareness in the area on the importance of water conservation, rational usage, contamination causes and methods of water treatment, with 50 students participating in each trip.
Students learn the contents through several interesting 30 minute sessions throughout the day by using natural components, which assures understanding the concept in a simple and clear way through "Learning by Doing" – a contemporary teaching method that proved its effectiveness worldwide, as the students are involved in the experience as it happens in real life.
Abd Alrahman Ashour an 11 year old, 6th grade student studying in El Nasr Primary School talks about his experience saying "we learned about ways to preserve water in school and at home, as well as the importance of water preservation, for water is a blessing we have to cherish. When asked about the learning tools that were used, he said "they used coloring, drawings, and water analysis tools".
Also Shereen Fikry a student in the same school said she was very happy to participate in these fascinating sessions, which are different from the usual teaching methods used in her school. She also said she learned how to filter water using cotton and gravel in an unforgettable experience.
Said Saad, Manager of Abou El Nomros Center for Science and Environment said that "Learning by Doing" is a modern scientific method that is widely used abroad, and he is proud of the introduction of this method in Egypt. He said that Etisalat should be praised for sponsoring such activities, and addressing the water issue especially now, where the water problem is increasing, and the need for such constructive projects to contribute to solving these problems was never as vital as now. He also urged other companies to follow Etisalat's steps in assuming their social responsibility towards the society.
It is worth mentioning that Etisalat Misr had announced in a press conference held last March the commencement of "Origin†and its four components, which are providing drinkable water, purifying contaminated water, managing water irrigation projects, and treating kidney failure.
The company announced the commencement of phase one of the initiative according to an execution plan that aims at helping overcoming water problems in different governorates in cooperation with the Giant International organization "Care" and the largest civil society establishments as Resala Organization and the Egyptian Society for Integrated Development under the supervision of the responsible Governmental Authorities, benefiting from these civil society organizations’ experiences in the fields of Development and water projects specifically.
