  • Huawei Drives Convergent Technology Offerings at Mobile World Congress 2013

Mobilk - Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, outlined a series of new mobile ICT solutions during the recently held Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona which the company anticipates will reshape the world’s telecommunications landscape.

With "Make It Possible" as its theme at MWC 2013, Huawei underscored its ability to provide ubiquitous broadband in the mobile era while helping customers and the public enrich life through communication. As ICT convergence continues and information technology advances quickly, Huawei believes that mobile communications will become one of the key drivers for economic growth—introducing the infinite possibilities of a connected lifestyle.

"At this years MWC, Huawei has further defined the increasingly digital world, illuminating the fact that the experiences and possibilities of a connected lifestyle are infinite," said Ryan Ding, senior vice president of Huawei. "Our discussions with customers not only touch on the present, but also the future. To that end, Huawei will continue to build business models that encourage win-win results, create a sound industry ecosystem, share greater business value with customers, and propel the industry forward."

Amongst the flagship Huawei solutions and events spotlighted at MWC 2013 include:

Huawei Broader Way Forum

At Huawei’s “Broader Way Forum” held during MWC 2013, both Ryan Ding, senior vice president of Huawei, and Dr Hamadoun I. Touré, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), delivered keynote speeches on how broadband drives the digital society. The forum included discussions with cross-industry experts, academics, operators, Internet service providers, government representatives, and the media.

Specific topics explored at the Broader Way Forum include the social and economic benefits of the digital society and of broadband penetration; the role of government to maximize the impact of broadband; and the investments required by both public and private institutions to reap the rewards of the broadband revolution.

Huawei devices

At MWC 2013, Huawei officially released its Ascend P2; a new-generation smartphone that combines elegant designs, fashionable elements, and the worlds fastest response speed. In addition, Huawei unveiled several other offerings including a high-end MediaPad 10 Full HD tablet, a cost-effective MediaPad 10 Link, and a fashionable 7-inch MediaPad 7 Lite tablet. Several other flagship smartphones appeared as well, such as the brand’s Ascend D2, Ascend Mate, Ascend W1, and Honor 2, loaded with Huawei’s proprietary user interface (Emotion UI) that can satisfy each and every mobile phone users demand for superior experience and functionality.

End-to-end managed services

Huawei’s SmartCARE®CEM solutions are aimed at providing consulting and system integration that increase telecom operators’ total value of ownership (TVO) from end to end. Building on these services at MWC 2013, Huawei announced the commercial deployment of its Service Quality Improvement (SQI) solution. SQI is a key component of Huawei’s SmartCare® solution as traditional network KPIs are no longer capable of accurately reflecting users’ experience of services. Huawei’s SQI solution helps operators to establish a Key Quality Indicator (KQI) system, which can truly reflect user’s service experience.

SoftCOM & SoftMobile

SoftCOM is Huaweis latest ICT network architecture that is built on cloud computing and software-defined networking (SDN). As a core part of Huaweis telecom pipe strategy, SoftCOM features core concepts such as network-level cloudization, equipment-level cloudization, telecom IT cloudization, and Internet-oriented operation. By capitalizing on these operation models, the SoftCOM network architecture helps tap into more revenue sources by expanding IT services beyond networks, with the architecture also able to slash costs by structurally improving network operating efficiency.

Huaweis SoftMobile further redefines the design architecture for mobile broadband (MBB) networks and supports software-defined modular pipes. SoftMobile can resolve equipment problems related to multi-mode and multi-frequency networking, with on-demand customization and collaboration as additional benefits. SoftMobile makes full use of cloud computing technologies to transform MBB networks into open software-defined networks. The SoftMobile-enabled transformations will help operators build profitable MBB pipes with enhanced elasticity, intelligence, scalability, and automation capabilities that address the ICT convergence.

World’s First 4-Carrier Aggregation for LTE TDD

During MWC 2013, Huawei also showcased the world’s first 4-Carrier Aggregation (CA) solution for LTE TDD. Utilizing leading 4×4 MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technologies, the solution provides 1 Gb/s data speeds for the industry’s best capacity with a single RRU. The solution establishes a wideband network benchmark, allowing a single user to enjoy higher data speeds on an LTE TDD network than previously possible.

Wireless networks have developed in recent years toward supporting multiple bands and modes as they have evolved toward LTE, and end user demand for higher data rates has grown. Huawei’s 4-CA solution for LTE TDD is a part of the company’s GigaSite solution for meeting growing end-user demands for higher data speeds, as well as highlighting the importance of wireless network equipment that supports multiple broadband frequencies; allowing for easy-to-deploy networks that are suited for long-term development.
