Mobilk - Now in its ninth edition, the Nawras Goodwill Journey’s 10-day voyage of compassion and generosity kicked off yesterday morning as Nawras Board Director, Saleh Nasser Al Riyami, joined the Executive Committee and family members to bid farewell to the volunteers as they left Muscat. The Goodwill Messengers will first venture north as far as Al Buraimi and then head south on the second leg to Al Mazyoona in Salalah.
After saying goodbye to the Nawras convoy, Saleh Nasser Al Riyami said, “During the Holy Month of Ramadan, Nawras family members will travel thousands of kilometres, covering the length and breadth of the country as part of this year’s Journey. They will be spreading joy to those most in need by providing important donations that assist the associations these communities rely upon. Nawras is a keen supporter of caring local and national initiatives and has always experienced a culture of volunteering within its family.”
The first stop on the journey was the Omani Woman’s Association in Seeb where Nawras Goodwill messengers donated domestic items including cooking equipment, sewing machines and televisions in addition to gifts and toys for children. Under the theme of ‘Multaqeen’, meaning ‘we will see you again’, the Nawras donations will assist with projects run by the association and the Ministry of Social Development to enhance the income generating capabilities of communities across the Sultanate through skills workshops.
On the occasion, Nawras Chief Executive Officer, Ross Cormack, added, “Giving back to the community and working together to make a difference is a key part of the Nawras philosophy and an ideal that the Journey has embodied since it first began in 2005. Each Goodwill Journey is precisely planned to ensure donations meet the individual needs of every recipient. The donations from Nawras will enhance the services offered by each organisation and enrich the daily lives of the local community that they serve.”
For eight consecutive years, the annual Ramadan corporate social responsibility programme has helped more than 7,000 families and travelled in excess of 48,000 kilometres, visiting over 150 organisations to bring smiles to people in local communities throughout the Sultanate of Oman. This year the Nawras Goodwill Journey will travel around 5,400 kilometres, visiting over 805 families and 4000 individuals, spreading smiles and contributing to the long term success of community initiatives in each Governorate.
The Nawras Goodwill Journey continues with a visit to the Omani Women’s Associations in Nakhal, Sohar and Daba where volunteers plan to meet and interact with local children in kindergarten schools managed by the organisations.
