Mobilk - Sohar has become the third city in Oman to receive super-fast Nawras 4G services as the countrywide Turbocharging programme reached the Al Batinah governorate. Over half of the base stations in the governorate have been turbocharged and customers can enjoy faster speeds, stronger coverage and a deeper reach into homes, offices and large buildings.
Wolfgang Wemhoff, Nawras Chief Technology Officer, said, “We have embarked upon an exciting new stage in our nationwide Turbocharging journey. Customers in Sohar and most of the Al Batinah governorate will now benefit from increased speeds and even better coverage as single carrier 3G sites are upgraded to dual carrier 3G+ and new 4G services are introduced in the city.”
“We are also very pleased about just having won the World Telecoms Award Middle East for Best Operator Network 2013 in the Middle East, which recognises our customer focussed network strategy and the quality of its execution – and the work continues!”
New sites are connected to the network every day as base stations become Turbocharged. After extensive testing, Nawras teams have streamlined the process to efficiently activate each site and immediately begin providing a caring customer experience in the governorate.
Nawras has invested around 60 million Omani Rials in the first phase of the Network Turbocharging programme which now covers over 95 per cent of the population in the Muscat Governorate with superfast 3G+. The next Turbocharged section will extend coverage to Shinas in Al Batinah North, creating a continuous broadband network from Al Bustan to Oman’s northern borders.
