This joint project aims at elevating educational and health standards for pre-primary students in Egypt. The fruitful cooperation between UNICEF and Mobinil stretches back 10 years, but has been focused in the last two years on serving the Egyptian childrens education and health in Upper Egypt.
The UNICEF-Mobinil partnership in this project focuses on increasing the enrolment rate of kindergarten students, since this is a critical age for the childs metal development. The kindergarten enrolment rate in Egypt today is only 18%. Pre-school education is vital and critical for developing a childs readiness for primary education, and this project aims to support the Egyptian Government national strategic plan to increase gross enrollment rate to 60% by 2015.
This ceremony was hosted by the Minister of Education Dr. Yousri Al Gamal and included a panel of distinguished guest speakers including Mobinil Chairman Mr. Iskandar Shalaby, UNICEF Egypt Representative Dr. Erma Manoncourt, representatives from the Ministries of Education, Ministry of Social Solidarity, the World Food Program, and partners from the civil society.
Mr. Shalaby stated, "I am honored to attend this graduation ceremony for the first class of kindergarten students from our joint partnership program for increasing educational and health standards in deprived areas, especially in Upper Egypt. We will also like to encourage the Egyptian private sector to increase its participation in this effort for our nation and people."
Mobinil CEO Mr. Hassan Kabbani stated that, "in accordance with the strategic orientation that Mobinil has set for itself since day one, we are playing our social role in Egypt through participating in different fields such as the environment, culture, and charities which benefit the Egyptian people from the various age groups, and classes."
"The UNICEF-Mobinil partnership reflects our companys humane side", said Audette Hanna, Mobinil VP Human Resources, adding that, "UNICEF-Mobinil cooperation has been focusing over the past two years on the issues of health and education, in line with Mobinils constant interest in the issues that concern Egypt at the present and in the future."
