Zain, part of the Zain group, the leading mobile operator in the Middle East and Africa, announced that it had started receiving application forms from student applicants for its education fund since October 15 and will continue to do so until the 15th of November, 2009.
The company has distributed the designated forms for the education fund in all its shops and showrooms that are scattered around the governorates. All students interested in applying can fill the forms and send it to the university’s administration in which they were accepted. "Zain Education Fund is one of the foremost fruits of partnership between the company and the Ministry of Education," said Zain CEO Dr. AbdelMalek Al Jaber, noting that the education sector has always been one of the top priorities for Zain since its inception, being one of the sectors that are vital for economic progress and for a knowledge-based economy.
Al Jaber also noted that the company's strategy is based on an effective partnership with the public sector and the service of the various other sectors. It also seeks to support the development of Jordanians through initiatives that promote the progress of human resources. Through its initiatives in the health, education and social fields, Zain also believes that the private sector can be a vital partner in achieving socio-economic progress and a major contributor to government efforts aimed at combating poverty and unemployment. This is done through the provision of training opportunities for the youth with the aim of upgrading their capabilities so as to increase their work opportunities and eventually serve to improve their living standards and quality of life.
Zain Education Fund was launched five years ago as an ongoing developmental program. It began by offering 11 educational grants, and today covers 42 distributed across the Kingdom every year, with 142 grants offered through the fund to date.
The Fund aims to benefit all excelling students who cannot afford the cost of university, provided they have a minimum average of 80% in the General Certificate Exam. Said students must be already enrolled at a state university and must meet the program's requirements covering most academic majors. The grants cover three categories: Group One covers 20 grants for non-Jordanian students, who are financially unable to enroll at the state universities, while Group Two covers 20 students who live below the poverty line, in accordance with the government's criteria, and Group Three covers students with special needs.
