  • Ooredoo’s Milestone Goodwill Journey Sets off for Second Week

Mobilk - Demonstrating Ooredoo’s underlining values of caring, connecting and challenging, the company’s Goodwill ambassadors have set off on week two, marking the halfway point of Ooredoo’s 15th landmark initiative. Committed to empowering communities and providing sustainable support across the Sultanate, the journey kicked off from the Al-Wafa Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled Children in Al Amerat with the official opening of a computer lab, carpentry workshop and sensory skills room. Under the patronage of the Minister of Social Development, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Said Al Kalbani, a signing ceremony also took place that will see three more Wafa Centres be equipped with sensory rooms.

Raed Mohammed Dawood, Director of Government Relations and Corporate Affairs at Ooredoo, said, “In our first week of activities, we have already seen communities benefitting from our donations and support. It is incredibly rewarding for our Goodwill ambassadors to see first-hand the joy they bring to all these communities during this special month.”

The Goodwill ambassadors visited Rustaq during the first leg of the Journey for the official opening of the 14th Ooredoo incubator, which equips women with the tools they need to start their own businesses by learning skills such as sewing, art, handicrafts and soap making. Started earlier this year, the incubator has already seen 36 women and trainers graduate. The convoy then travelled to Sohar Hospital where team members built an outdoor playground and visited young cancer patients, handing out gifts that put smiles on faces. Later they donated equipment to the Oman Association for the Disabled and enjoyed an Iftar with them and giving out  “Kiswat Al Eid” to 100 disabled members.

The convoy also travelled to Yanqul’s Omani Women’s Association where volunteers launched another Ooredoo incubator and donated digital devices to the Al Noor Association for the Blind to be used in their library. The final event in the first leg of their voyage was a visit to the Izki incubator to celebrate the graduation of 68 women and 5 trainers from previous workshops.

The second leg of the Ooredoo Goodwill Journey began in Mudhaibi, where volunteers will help two needy families renovate and furnish their homes. Other stops on the Journey will include Musairah, Duqm, Muqshan and Mirbat, ending this year’s initiative in Salalah.
