Mobilk - Ooredoo has become the first telecommunication member in Oman and the GCC to join the LoRa Alliance, a non-profit association driven to enable the global success of Internet-of-things (IoT).  The membership will allow the company to collaborate with other IoT service providers, chip manufacturers, solution developers and other businesses serving the industry’s requirement to push the technology forward.  This agreement is another step in Ooredoo’s journey towards making the right investments to the successful implementation of internet-of-things.

Sultan bin Ahmed Al-Wahaibi, Chief Business & Wholesale Officer at Ooredoo said, “By 2020, it is predicted that there will be almost 31 billion connected devices.  The Internet-of-Things is already transforming the world and Ooredoo is committed to providing our customers an easier, more convenient and smarter life though our growing range of devices and solutions.  This is an important milestone to helping us achieve the national expansion of IoT.  We are taking active measures in adopting this technology that is underpinned by the strength of the Ooredoo network with the help of LoRa Alliance, one of the front runners in this kind of digital innovation.  This membership will give our customers the greatest possible reach in regards to IoT services that will enrich their lives”.

LoRa Alliance is an association of over 500 participants who believe that the Internet-of-Things era is now!  Creating a global membership across 41 counties, it acts as a forum for collaboration opportunities and sharing experiences to enable the success of the LoRa protocol, LoRaWAN™.  Setting international standards for providing secure carrier-grade IoT low-power, wide-area (LPWA) connectivity with the aim of empowering all THINGS to have a global voice.

Described as transformative technology revolution, the Internet-of-Things will fundamentally transform businesses, generate enormous economic wealth and create immeasurable social value.  To date, the effects of this new technology can be seen in the emergence of smart cities and various connected things such as utilities, railways, factories, and even connected cars, to name but a few.  Growing at an exponential rate, the future of the internet landscape is a hot topic. Predictions of what will become of a highly connected world, the impact will go beyond connected devices.  In short, IoT will become the backbone of future customer value accelerating business growth and its infrastructure will give an advantage to specialized dedicated platforms.
