The UAE TRA celebrates the International Girls in ICT Day under the theme “Expand horizons, change attitudes”

Mobilk - The UAE Telecommunication Regulatory Authority held a session under the title “Sharing the ITU training program experience” in conjunction with the International Girls in ICT Day: Expand horizons, change attitudes.

The session reflected the experiences of the Emirati female engineers Amal Al Qassim, Shaymaa Al Hafiti and Amna Al Shamsi during the 4-month ITU training program aiming at enabling the UAE woman in ICT and preparing the next generation of the TRA’s leaders.

On this occasion, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General said: “The UAE has given a high priority to Emirati woman empowerment under the directions of the wise leadership, who believes in the UAE woman role in driving the development of our country. Today, we see women as leaders in all sectors, contributing to achievement of the UAE’s vision and future goals. In the UAE TRA, we are proud of the significant role played by Emirati woman in ICT sector. Woman had a crucial role in the UAE success achieved in ICT sector.

During the session, Eng. Amal Al Qassim, CoDI software engineer, highlighted the benefits she gained from her participation in the ITU training program. She said: “We were treated as employees in the ITU and hold the position of line manager. We had work experience in private and public sectors at the same time during the training programme. This experience highlighted the Emirati woman ability to work in different technical sectors, including ICT. I and my colleagues could reflect the real image of the successful Emirati woman and tell people about the UAE culture.

Shaymaa Al Hafiti, networking engineer, talked about her experience: “My relation with the ITU started since I joined the TRA. This indicates the great trust of the leadership in young woman cadres. I gained much experience from the training program regarding international events. It enabled me to deal with people from different nationalities, ages and experiences. It enhanced my ability to have flexible responses and take decisions.”

Amna Al Shamsi, interconnection regulation specialist talked about her experience: “It was a fantastic experience. We worked in an environment completely different from that of the TRA. We met employees from all over the world and benefited from their experiences. We had the experience of work behind the scene for international meetings and conferences. We learned many things about meeting management, democracy in decision making, organization of opinions to reach consensual decisions. I thank my government and the TRA management for their support of woman in different sectors, particularly ICT. I advise all young women to take the change and face the challenges in the different experiences of life.”

The ITU launched the International Girls in ICT Day to be celebrated in April 23 every year. The ITU members and thousands of partners around the world meet to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of information and communication technologies.
