  • TRA receives certification in European Corporate Sustainability Specification

Mobilk - The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced that it has received the European Standard Certificate in Corporate Sustainability. TRAs receiving of BS-8900-1 Managing sustainable development of organizations came as a result of its efforts to ensure the sustainability of the ICT sector under all circumstances, and for future generations.

Commenting on this certificate, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, TRA Director General, said: "Recent events and the ensuing precautionary measures, such as remote working, distance learning and remote services underscore the importance of business continuity in government entities, including the TRA, which oversees a vital sector in the age of digital transformations. We are happy to be among the most prepared and sustained government entities in all circumstances, where we are working to provide full support to the sectors whether in terms of the telecommunications infrastructure or enabling digital transformation."

He added: "The strategic goals of the TRA are based on developing a fair regulatory environment for the ICT sector in the UAE to enhance competitiveness and effective sustainability, improving the quality of services provided by the UAEs ICT sector thus keeping up with technological developments of the ICT sector. Leadership in the smart technical infrastructure in the UAE. Enhance a smart lifestyle in the UAE. Ensure that all administrative services are provided in accordance with standards of quality, efficiency and transparency. Fostering a culture of innovation in the corporate work environment, where the TRA team has made every effort to achieve these goals. TRAs receiving of this certificate underscore the success of the team efforts in providing all conditions for ICT sector sustainability.

H.E. Al Mansouri stressed that the TRA is an active and strong contributor to achieving Sustainable Development Goals at the national level, adding: "The UAE has a legacy of sustainability, pioneered by our nations founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. His vision for the UAE embodied the sustainable development of our economy, society and the environment we live in. Today, under the guidance of the wise leadership, we are following the same path in order to promote sustainable development and find effective, innovative solutions that will ensure a happy life for us and future generations based on a sustainable knowledge economy."

The TRAs receiving of this international sustainability certificate is the result of a number of actions and steps it has taken, such as raising Emiratization rates in the sector, supporting the community, recycling waste, shaping the future of services and projects development, contributing to preserving national security, building national capabilities, conserving energy, and supporting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations

The TRA has sought to implement best corporate sustainability practices as approved by the British Standards Institution, providing a framework for integrating the sustainability approach into decision-making, plans and daily business of the TRA. The TRA has been able to overcome the challenges it previously faced in measuring the impact of sustainability, strengthening its social, environmental and economic role in supporting the UAE governments efforts to conserve resources for future generations.

The TRA has a number of plans and policies in business continuity and sustainability, as the telecommunications sector forms the cornerstone of various activities and areas such as economics, education, health, security, and defense. Therefore, sustaining these sectors is driven essentially by sustaining the telecommunications sector.
