Mobilk - The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the Kingdom of Bahrain has signed an agreement to host the lnternational Telecommunication Unions (ITU)14th Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) in June, 2014. Hosting this event reaffirms Bahrains position as a regional exemplar in the field of telecommunications regulation. The signing took place in Dubai while attending the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC).
TRA is pleased to participate in the WTDC to discuss and agree on crucial steps in improving broadband infrastructure on a global scale. Other development topics which will also be on the agenda include accessibility for people with special needs, e-Education, transitioning to digital broadcasting and cyber-security; including child online protection.
The World Telecommunication Development Conference is the ITU Development Sector’s major decision making conference, which is held every four years. The ITU is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies – ICTs. The objective of conference is to establish work programmes and guidelines for defining telecommunication development questions and priorities and to provide direction and guidance for the work programme of the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) over the next four-year period. The World Telecommunication Development Conference began on Sunday, the 30th of March, and will continue until the 10th of April, 2014.
