Mobilk - Following a number of regional firsts in the Middle East telecommunications sector, Huawei—a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider—is set to close out the year strong being honored as Middle East Vendor of the Year at both the CommsMEA Awards 2013 and the Telecom Review Awards—both forum recognizing those who have helped turn the region’s telecommunications sector into one of the most vibrant and dynamic in the world.
The latest recognitions acknowledge Huawei’s ongoing industry leadership for exceeding its clients’ expectations on the delivery of projects in the Middle East, with Huawei taking home the CommsMEA Award for the fifth year running. Within the Middle East, Huawei has been active for more than a decade with ten regional offices that today include over 3,800 employees responsible for more than $2 billion in contract sales last year—an 18 percent increase over the previous year.

Over the last year Huawei further solidified its position as an ICT leader in the region by pioneering a number of industry firsts in the development of telecommunications networks, as well as providing a host of new solutions to the enterprise ICT sector and consumer device market.
On the telecom front, these projects included deploying the first commercial 400G IP Core Network in KSA as well as working in Kuwait to deploy the first 100G network in the Middle East to support greater broadband user experience. Supporting the next generation of LTE-Advanced services in the region, Huawei also joined hands with partners to launch the region’s first commercial LTE-A network and to successfully test voice over LTE (VoLTE) services for the very first time in the UAE.
Within the enterprise market, Huawei has signed several new channel partner agreements during 2013 as well as a strategic partnership with Drake & Scull to assist organizations across MENA to harness the potential of data center technology through a jointly-created turnkey solution. New portfolio additions were also a highlight of 2013 with Huawei launching its AnyOffice BYOD solution, a next-generation video conferencing for SMEs, and its second-generation Huawei eSpace unified communications solution providing companies a single platform through which their employees can stay connected on almost any mobile device.
As for the consumer device market, Huawei has been able to solidify its leading position in the field of Wi-Fi-enabled devices, in addition to the launch of several world-first smartphones including Ascend P6, the slimmest smartphone in the world. The company also launched Ascend Mate, the worlds biggest smartphone, and Ascend P2, the worlds fastest LTE smartphone; in addition to many multi-sized tablets.
This year the company also opened its first Middle East logistics hub as well as Huawei’s first Middle East IT Competence Center to support technology innovation across the Middle East.
Anticipating a widened role within the Middle East due for supporting Smart Cities of the future, Huawei is currently investing in a variety of original ICT solutions to support specific requirements of the Smart City—ranging from e-Government portals to smart utility grids, connected hospitals as well as unified public safety networks.
