During his visit to the region, Hamadoun Toure, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) General Secretary this week visited Qtel Head Quarter offices in West Bay.
Mr. Toure, who carries the responsibility to coordinate the Union’s activities and is responsible for the overall management of the Union’s resources, met with Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al-Thani, Qtel Chairman, and Dr Nasser Marafih, Qtel CEO, as a step to strengthen the relationship between ITU members.
“Qtel is keen to emphasize its international presence. We are of course proud to be a member of the ITU where we can develop our relationships with other operators worldwide, and focus on building international strategies that help our goals and the goals of our colleagues in the telecommunications industry. We are pleased to welcome Mr. Toure to Qatar, and are confident that his efforts will help serve ITU.” Said Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani, Qtel Chairman.
Mr. Toure commented,” As it is one of the main roles of the ITU make the right decisions about Internet critical issues, and to further develop Information Communication Technologies (ICT), I wanted this tour in the region to have a closer look to the members’ plans and intentions. Qtel is one of the most significant Telco's in the region and I believe it has all the resources, technologies and commitment to play a strong role in the field of telecommunications and the growth of ICT for the betterment of all.”
Adel Matawaa , Acting Executive Director-Group Communication at Qtel , added;” It was a great honor for us to receive Mr. Toure at Qtel. We hope that his attendance to the 7th Global Symposium for Regulations conference in Dubai, will be a success for all ITU members.”
Qatar in one of the 190 countries that gathered last November in Antalaya-Turky to debate the future internet polices, resolutions and to take action on some key issues related to this matter, and where Mr. Tour was elected as the ITU General secretary.
