Zain, part of the Zain group, the leading mobile operator in the Middle East and Africa, distributed, today, its educational grants for the current academic year through its education fund.
Launched in 2004, the fund is designed to provide students with equal educational opportunities irrespective of their financial condition.
Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Secretary General Dr. Turki Obeidat commended Zain's efforts in supporting the educational entities in Jordan, specifically universities, adding that Zain was one of the pioneers to support the public sector, as per the vision of HM King Abdullah II. Obeidat called upon all companies within the private sector to walk Zain's path in building the Jordanian society.
Obeidat mentioned that the total number of grants offered by Zain so far totaled 180, noting that the ministry supported the initiative which is in line with His Majesty's direction.
Zain CEO Dr. AbdulMalek Al Jaber said during the grant distribution event held at the company’s Head Quarters said that Zain’s Education Fund is one of the foremost fruits of partnership between the company and the Ministry, adding that supporting Jordan’s education sector has always been a priority for Zain given its importance for local economic progress and having a knowledge-based economy.
Al Jaber added that Zain's focus on the education sector is manifested by the company's establishment of other partnership agreements with a number of Jordanian universities. Zain also launched a mobile telecommunications lab at the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) and adopted the computerization of the science curriculum for Grades 1-12 as part of the Jordan Education Initiative. the company also launched the “PC for every teacher” fund initiative and adopted a public of number schools under the Madrasati initiative.
Al Jaber also noted that the company's strategy is based on an effective partnership with the public sector and the service of the various other sectors. It also seeks to support the development of Jordanians through initiatives that promote the progress of human resources. Through its initiatives in the health, education and social fields, Zain also believes that the private sector can be a vital partner in achieving socio-economic progress and a major contributor to government efforts aimed at combating poverty and unemployment. This is done through the provision of training opportunities to enhance abilities which in turn will boost their work opportunities and eventually serve to improve their standard of living.
Zain Education Fund was launched five years ago as an ongoing developmental program. It began by offering 11 educational grants, and today covers 42 distributed across the Kingdom. The grants cover three categories: Group One covers 20 grants for non-Jordanian students, who are financially unable to enroll at the state universities, while Group Two covers 20 students who live below the poverty line, in accordance with the government's criteria, and Group Three covers students with special needs
