Qtel today announced its support for the final round of the Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship 2008, set to take place at the Losail racetrack in Qatar. Qtel is a sponsor for the entire Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship, and the final event offers an opportunity to bring the full excitement back home to Qatar.
As a long-term sponsor of the event, Qtel has worked closely with the Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation to support the growth of motorsports’ popularity in Qatar. The 2008 event will see a range of teams including Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (World title winners) and the Qatar Endurance Racing Team ITJ (winners of the FIM Superstock World Cup) compete in the final round of the season.
“Qtel has a proud history of working as a supporter of sport in Qatar, and motorsport in particular, and we are delighted to extend our support for the exciting final event in November,” said Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani, Executive Director of the General Service Unit in Qtel.
He paid tribute to the work of the Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation, which has played an important role in encouraging more people to become involved in motorsports.
In particular, Sheikh Saud congratulated Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya, QMMF President and Losail International Circuit General Manager, Qatar Endurance Racing Team IJT Director, for his leadership role in the sport both locally and globally.
The Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship 2008 event in Doha will see a number of Qatari competitors take to the field. Mashel Al Naimi and Rashid Al Mannai, two of the country’s best riders, are set to participate as part of the Qatar Endurance Racing Team ITJ.
“A major objective of Qtel’s support for sport is to encourage young Qataris to participate and excel at the highest levels. The performance of the Qatar Endurance Racing Team this season has been a source of pride for us all,” said Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani.
Other teams competing in the November 8th event include the Yamaha Austria Racing Team, Yamaha Phase One Endurance, and the Bolliger Team Switzerland.
Qtel has a long history of supporting Qatari sport, and this year has already extended support to Qatari football and the Sony Ericsson Championships women’s tennis event.
