Mobilk - More than ever before, the smartphone is set to emerge as an essential tool for Muslims across Middle East and North Africa (MENA) when Ramadan begins around 21 July.

“Smartphones are integral to every aspect of our lives and the need for constant connectively only increases during Ramadan,” said Raed Hafez, managing director, Motorola Mobility, Middle East & Africa.

“The Holy Month calls for a great deal of coordination and awareness, which is why a powerful device loaded with suitable apps is likely to be a ‘must have’. Wherever Muslims find themselves in the world, this will enable them to be attuned to the requirements of their religion, never miss a crucial moment and remain healthy.”

From Qibla direction and Iftar scheduling, to dietary advice for diabetics and the Qu’ran on-the-go, there has been an explosion of specialist apps in the past year to help people get the most out of the Holy Month.

Google Play™ lists hundreds of Android-based Ramadan-specific apps, including Boukhatem.COM’s Ramadan 2012, which features the facility to determine prayer, Imsak and Iftar times for more than 251 countries, as well as handy guides for recommended supplications and salutations (Hadith and Dua).  Cubiic SAL’s Live Ramadan, meanwhile, takes a more educational tack and provides users with an in-depth explanation of the significance and value of Ramadan.

With smartphone use ramping up during Ramadan, consumers are also likely to turn to devices that can match their own stamina.

Motorola RAZR MAXX is among the front-runners is this respect, offering an unprecedented 3,300mAh battery capable of 17.6¹ hours talk-time, 17 hours video playback or 600 hours in stand-by mode.

RAZR MAXX also benefits from SMARTACTIONS™, which pushes the limits even further by automating everyday tasks based on triggers like time of day, location, battery levels and more.
