Samsung will be the first manufacturer to release a 12-megapixel camera phone after it announced the launch of the Pixon12.

The phone will be available in the UK during Q3, before Sony Ericsson’s 12-megapixel Satio, which is due in Q4.

The phone, which comes with a full-touch 3.1-inch screen, comes with Touch Auto-Focus (AF). This enables users to select focus points with their finger, after which the AF function will automatically follow the object and keep it in focus even if it moves across the screen.

The Smart Auto feature will see the camera automatically change the scene and mode based on its background and lighting. Samsung said the Pixon12 boasts digital camera quality due to its 28mm lens and Xenon flash with the phone also coming with a dedicated camera power key to give users one-touch access to the camera function.

In addition, the phone enables users to manage photos in multiple ways - by tags, file names, ratings and time. A multi-selection feature will also enable users to select images in groups rather than one by one.

Samsung Mobile UK and Ireland vice president Mark Mitchinson said: "The Pixon12 is testament to how Samsung’s ongoing consumer research enables us to develop groundbreaking products that surpass our customers’ expectations.

"Speedy access to the camera mode, fast shutter speed and rapid browsing are some of the key features consumers are looking for from their mobile phone cameras. They won’t be disappointed."
