Mobilk - Ooredoo graduated 27 women from its incubator programme in Wilayat Mussanah, empowering them with income-generating sewing skills that will enhance their employability and economic independence. Launched in collaboration with the Omani Women’s Association in Mussanah, the initiative has provided a total of 145 women with training in a wide range of disciplines including Information Technology, beauty, and other vocational skills designed to champion gender equality in the Sultanate.
Raed Dawood, Director of Government Relations and Corporate Affairs at Ooredoo, said, “We place a strong emphasis on empowering women and contribute to their sustainable and long-term enablement, no matter what their circumstances are. Through our incubator programmes, we have managed to maintain that promise, equipping women with the skills they need to thrive and overcome obstacles when it comes to becoming economically independent or setting-up a business. Our 27 graduates join a longlist of participants who have dedicated the time and effort to complete our programme and were able to secure employment as a result. In fact, 25% of all graduates have gone on to start their own businesses, joining Oman’s burgeoning SME sector”.
Dawood went on to explain that over the past several years, Ooredoo has organised incubator programmes in Qurrayat as well as Mussanah both of which have developed the skillsets of more than 200 women, providing them with the courses, donations and in-kind contributions required to achieve economic success. He added, “Our incubator programme has become a key pillar in our CSR drive, and we are in the process of finalising plans to launch six additional new incubators across Oman within 2017.”
Ooredoo has earned a reputation as one of the Sultanate’s caring companies when it comes to CSR, dedicating significant amounts of time to building capacities and championing humanitarian causes across the country. Another staple of the Company’s CSR initiatives is Ooredoo’s Goodwill Journey which sees volunteers travel the length and breadth of Oman on a mission of care, compassion and community support. Dedicating its resources to ensure sustainable impact, Ooredoo’s travelling ambassadors have directly empowered more than 171 groups and 10,000 people since 2005.
