Ooredoo Proudly Announced as the Official Partner of the First Oman Schools League

Mobilk - Creating an enriching platform for footballing talent across the Sultanate, Ooredoo is sponsoring the first-of-its-kind Oman Schools League to inspire youth through the power of sports. The tournament, which is being organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, will see 5250 students from 180 public and private schools face-off from September 2016 to May 2017. Launched during a special signing ceremony held under the auspices of H.H. Sayyed Faisal bin Turki Al Said, Director General, Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (ITHRAA), the nationwide league is the first aimed at cultivating the talent of children aged 15-18 years old.

Kumail Al Moosawi, Chief People and Corporate Affairs Officer at Ooredoo, commented on the competition, saying, “Our sponsorship of the Oman Schools League reflects our commitment to sports-based youth developmental projects that promote healthy lifestyles, personal growth and teamwork. Football is Oman’s national pastime and it is important that we provide youngsters with the training, competition and social investments needed to reach their full potential. Through our partnership with the Ministry of Education, we are not just empowering them with this opportunity but bringing communities across the Sultanate together through our love of the beautiful game.”

The Oman Schools League will be organised in two legs with regional qualifiers held in 12 stadiums and clubs across the nation to determine who will play in the final round in Muscat. A number of workshops and seminars will be run for the duration of the competition to develop the coaching, refereeing, and sports medicine skillsets of participants.

A number of exciting prizes are awaiting top teams and players. For the regional qualifiers, 700 OMR, 21 gold medals and a trophy will be given to all first place teams. Second placed teams will receive 500 OMR and 21 silver medals, while third placed teams will win 200 OMR in prize money and bronze medals. First place winners of the finals are set to receive a league cup, 21 gold medals and free artificial grassing for their school pitch. First runners-up will be given 2,000 OMR and silver medals while bronze medals and 1,000 OMR have been reserved for the third placed finishers. Prizes and an award of 100 OMR will also be given to the ‘Best Player’, ‘Best Goalkeeper’, ‘Best Coach’, ‘Best Fan Group’, ‘Best Photographer’, and ‘Best Administrator’ during the tournament.
