Mobilk - Preparations for the Ooredoo Goodwill Journey are in full swing as plans are set to travel over 5,000 km between 12 and 26 June 2016. The 12th annual journey of Ooredoo’s principal Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aims to foster sustainable development and growth by empowering women and youth in 13 Wilayats across the Sultanate, providing essential equipment, supplies and educational materials in the spirit of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Kumail Al Moosawi, Ooredoo’s Chief People and Corporate Affairs Officer, said, “The Goodwill Journey was created to make a difference to the lives of people across the Sultanate, whether by creating opportunities for development, enhancing skillsets and employability or providing educational tools that nurture the next generation of leaders. This year, as we continue to celebrate the values that have guided us over the past 11 years and build on lessons learned, the Ooredoo Goodwill Journey has centered its efforts on sustainability, not only that of the initiative but of its impact as well.”
He went on to explain, “2015 witnessed the launch of our first Incubator Programme, which saw 88 women from Mussanah undergo a series of intensive workshops where they were taught essential skills in the disciplines of IT, beauty, cooking, and sewing. These women today have been able to grow their own businesses and in fact, a few of them exhibited at the Bindera Village, competing with over 70 SMEs from Oman and the GCC. Our 2016 journey has targeted women in Wilayat of Qurayyat. Identifying certain needs within the community, we were able to design a programme that will allow them to explore new avenues of income and growth.”
Ooredoo’s convoy carrying 22 fasting Goodwill ambassadors will kick-off from Salalah in the Governorate of Dhofar, heading north and stopping in Shalim and Hallaniyat, Al Jazir, Al Mudhaibi, and Sur. Volunteers will also visit Boushar, Rustaq, Al Khabourah, Sunaynah, Dibba, and Dhank before ending the Goodwill Journey with visits to Manah and Mussanah.
Over the course of the last 11 years Ooredoo’s Goodwill ambassadors have travelled more than 53,000km, visited 171 charitable organisations and almost 11,000 people. For more information on the Ooredoo 12th Goodwill Journey and how to contribute to it, visit www.ooredoo.om
