  • Nokia Siemens Networks wins SAMENA Award for Best Green Technology of the Year 2011

Nokia Siemens Networks has won the SAMENA Award for “Best Green Technology of the Year 2011” on November 2, 2011 at an event held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Doha, Qatar. SAMENA Awards recognize leadership and excellence in the telecoms sectors of the South Asia - Middle East - North Africa (SAMENA) region. Nokia Siemens Networks was recognized for contributing the most  towards the environment via use of  energy-efficient technology and adoption of  green initiatives, thereby helping operators reduce their carbon footprint.

“We are honoured to receive the SAMENA Award in this category for the second consecutive year,” said Igor Leprince, head of the Middle East region at Nokia Siemens Networks. “We have always believed in the power of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to reduce the globe’s carbon footprint. Many areas in the SAMENA region are underserved telecom territories and we find that our wireless broadband and cost efficient green technology solutions allow operators to economically provide critical services to a much wider audience than was previously possible. This award reaffirms our commitment to creating a sustainable future by using smart technology and solutions.”

Nokia Siemens Networks was assessed on the basis of an individual, anonymous voting of the Awards Evaluation Committee (AEC). The process included a thorough review of the  eligible awardees, independent  study of  Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other data gathered through market research. The key criteria for selecting Nokia Siemens Networks included social impact, contribution to profitability, innovation and utilisation of technology.

Nokia Siemens Networks was also named “Best Vendor” at the Telecoms World Middle East Awards, held on October 2011. These awards are designed to identify and reward companies that have positively contributed to the development of telecoms in the Middle East.

With more than 600 customers in 150 countries, including 75 of the top 100 service providers Nokia Siemens Networks is a leader in providing smart phone experience in both 3G and GSM – with up to 50% less signaling traffic and 80% longer battery life. The company offers an entire portfolio of Energy Solutions that use renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. Nokia Siemens Networks’ Flexi Multiradio Base Station was reaffirmed as the most environmentally friendly network technology (Jupiter Research 2010).
