Wataniya Palestine Sponsors the Womens Football League in the northern districts

Wataniya Mobile, the new mobile telecommunications network in Palestine,  yesterday signed an agreement with the Palestinian Football Association to sponsor the Women’s Football League in the northern districts.

The league’s kick off match between the Ramallah and Bethlehem teams, will take place on the 26th of this month in the presence of President Mahmoud Abbas, Prime Minster Salam Fayyad, the President of FIFA, Mr. Joseph Blatter, the President of the Palestinian Football Association, General Jibril Al-Rjoub and a number of local and international figures.

Six football clubs will participate in the league, which will conclude with the selection of the members of the Palestinian National Women’s Football Team that will represent Palestine internationally.

Allan Richardson, the Chief Executive Officer of Wataniys Mobile, Said: “ We are proud to continue to support Women’s football in Palestine with our sponsorship of the Women’s League. This step presents us with yet another opportunity to support sports in Palestine which we strongly believe has an important role to play in development.”

Also commenting on this announcement, Honey Thaljieh, the Captain of the Palestinian Women’s National Team, said: “We are very happy to see this dream become a reality thanks to those who believe in the importance of supporting youth in Palestine. With this new opportunity that is presented to us by Wataniya Mobile we get closer to fulfilling the dream of having a Palestinian National Women’s Team that will lift the Palestinian flag throughout the world. This sponsorship supports our goals of spreading women’s football locally and internationally. We are particularly proud to kick off the league in front of the President of FIFA and to be able to show him our capabilities, especially that we are one of the few countries in the region that had placed such importance on women’s football.”
Thaljieh added: “This is our second experience with Wataniya Mobile, which supported us in the past and sponsored our participation last year in one of the most important events in the region.”

The launch of the Women’s League will take place on the same day of the opening ceremony of the Faisal Al-Husseini Stadium in Jerusalem. Wataniya Mobile, the Bank of Palestine and BCI are contributing sponsors to the ceremony which will include an international friendly match between Jordan and Palestine.
