  • His Excellency Al Jabri receives Nawras Goodwill Journey 9 after 10 days of countrywide compassion and generosity

Mobilk - After 10 days and 5,400 kilometres covering the length and breadth of the Sultanate, the fasting Nawras Goodwill Journey messengers were welcomed back to Muscat Grand Mall with a ceremony held under the patronage of His Excellency Ali bin Khalfan Al Jabri, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Information. Nawras  board members also joined CEO, Ross Cormack and Nawras family members to review the achievements of this year’s Nawras Goodwill Journey.

Thanking the volunteers, His Excellency, said, “The Nawras Goodwill Journey is the cornerstone of our commitment to the community. The dedication shown by Nawras family members during the journey is testament to the giving spirit throughout the company and the caring approach to everything we do. To give their time during Ramadan and spread joy to those in need, improving the daily lives of  people across the country, is just one of the ways that Nawras family members give back to the community throughout the year.”

This time, the Nawras Goodwill Journey assisted the Omani Women’s Association and Ministry of Social Development in delivering a positive impact to more than 800 families and 4,000 individuals. Donations of vital equipment in support of social development programmes will increase skills and empower people to become more active members of society.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nawras CEO, Ross Cormack, said, “We are grateful to all of our family members for their enthusiastic commitment to the Nawras Goodwill Journey. We are always keen to play our part in supporting local and national initiatives that create new opportunities for employment in local communities. The Omani Women’s Association and Ministry of Social Development have long term goals to create income generating initiatives for Omani ladies; Nawras is honoured to be part of this project by providing help to incubate new business prospects.”

During the ceremony, guests were treated to an original work by renowned Omani poet Faisal Al Farsi. The recital was followed by a detailed account of this year’s Nawras Goodwill Journey achievements, by its leader, Khalid Al Zadjali. A video diary was shown to share a visual summary of the projects and activities that volunteers took part in.

The Nawras Goodwill Journey 9 initially travelled north to visit branches of the Omani Women’s Association in Seeb, Sohar and in the Wilayats of Nakhal, Mahadha, Ibri, Daba and Adam. At each stop they donated the specific items that were earlier requested and sourced to meet the needs of that particular location. This included cooking equipment, air conditioning units, water coolers, electrical items, washing machines, sewing machines, wheelchairs, books and educational packages to empower local women, children and less able members of the community.

The first team then returned to Muscat and next team of volunteers embarked on the second stage. Now heading south, the convoy stopped in Ibra, Al Qabil, Wadi bani Khalid and Al Ashkharah in Willayat  Jallan bani bu Ali, where volunteers donated a number of household items and installed gym equipment in one of the associations before moving on to  Al Duqm. Upon reaching Dhofar, volunteers gave donations to the Omani Women’s Associations in Al Mayzoona and Mirbat in Salalah.

Every year since 2005, the Nawras Goodwill Journey has donated thousands of Omani Rials worth of equipment, furniture and educational materials to charitable institutions, schools and community groups to help those in need.  The caring actions of each year’s volunteer participants have touched the lives of thousands of people and left a legacy of sustainable activities.
