Wataniya Mobile, the new mobile telecommunications network in Palestine, delivered on Wednesday the “Mahmoud Darwish Award” to Amani Salhab, who is a student attending Hebron University. The award, which will cover Amani’s full tuition fees until her graduation, was delivered to her in the presence of representatives from Wataniya Mobile and also from the university’s public relations and students’ affairs office.
Commenting on being granted this award, Amani Salhab, said: “I was very happy when I heard the news that I had won this award and I am very grateful for Wataniya Mobile for this gesture. The award came at the right time for me and I can now focus on my studies”.
The idea for the award came about soon after the death of the great poet Mahmoud Darwish and was announced through Wataniya Mobile’s sponsorship of the literary competition in the “Filistin Ashabab” youth magazine. A draw was conducted to choose a Palestinian university that in turn had to develop a criteria to decide on which of its students should receive the award.
Commenting on the award, Hakam Al Ja’bari, the Financial Aid Officer at Hebron University, said: “This is a very kind gesture from Wataniya Mobile and a good start for cooperation between the company and Hebron University. We are keen to create an excellent long term relationship between us that will benefit our students, especially that Wataniya Mobile is already very active in the area of social responsibility.”
Also commenting on this development, Mohammad Nassar, the Public Relations Manger of Wataniya Mobile, said: “We strongly believe in the role that we must play when it comes to development in Palestine and we will continue to focus on our social responsibility programs in the months and years to come. The Mahmoud Darwish Award follows a number of activities that we sponsored that particularly focus on youth in Palestine. We hope to continue to work with all Palestinian universities to create more of these programs in the future.
