Not everyone took Acer seriously back in February when they announced that they are entering the mobile phones market but things are staring to get pretty serious now. Three of the dummy models displayed back in Barcelona have just been showcased at Computex and they definitely seem to mean business.
Codenamed Acer F1, the most exciting new device will run on the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. There is still some i-dotting and t-crossing to do there so the launch date in September, promised by Acer is probably the best we could have hoped for.
Acer F1
The specifications of the device that have been revealed up to now are all pretty impressive. It packs the 1GHz CPU, we came to know since the Toshiba TG01 complemented by sweet 256 MB of RAM. The Acer F1 will also come with a thrilling 3.8" WVGA display, 3G with HSDPA and a 5 megapixel autofocus camera. There will also be a built-in GPS plus an FM radio receiver and a 3.5mm standard audio jack. Now that hardly leaves anything to be demanded, does it? Yes, theres no Wi-Fi mentioned but we guess its part of the package as well.
Next in-line is the mid-range Acer L1, which should come with a slide-out alphanumeric keypad to complement the 2.8" touchscreen display. It will also sport a 5-way navigation key to make touchless operation also possible.
Acer L1
Acer also promised that the L1 will come up with a UI plug-in of their own to freshen things up a little bit.
We complete the Acer WinMo handsets roundup with a relatively affordable offering. The Acer C1 will be the third Acer handset to sport the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS and will come with a 2.8" touschreen display. It will run on a 528 MHz CPU and will come with a 2 megapixel fixed-focus camera.
Acer C1
Like the F1, Acer L1 and Acer C1 will both start shipping in September but the company is still hesitant to reveal details about the pricing of any of the three.
