Commenting on the GSR, Mr. Bubashait said: “The GSR is an excellent platform to benefit from each other’s experience. The annual meetings of the GSR are always a valuable means for discussing challenges and possible innovative solutions for the benefit of both consumers and operators in the ICT sector.”
Mr. Bubashait participated in a panel discussion on the role of the regulator in a converged digital environment. Mr. Bubashait highlighted and shared TRA Bahrain’s experience in the move from ex-ante regulation to ex-post regulation to foster competition and provide consumers with converged technology and services in a neutral and fair regulatory environment.
The GSR is an annual event of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) convened to strengthen exchanges of experience among regulators on the most important regulatory subjects and issues. The meeting fosters an open dialogue among regulators and with key ICT stakeholders. The first two days of the GSR were open to ITU-D Sector Members (Industry), policy makers, regulators, and other invited guests and took the form of an Open Dialogue. The third day was reserved for regulators and policy makers.
The theme of this year’s GSR was “Why regulate in a Networked Society?”. The GSR was opened with a high-level interactive session, focusing on transnational regulatory issues in a converged digital era, understanding the changing business dynamics and the role of regulation.
