Wataniya Palestine Telecom (WPT) announced its sponsorship of the Palestinian Women’s Football Team at a press conference yesterday. The Team is heading to Abu Dhabi to participate in a Ramadan football tournament of 12 Arab women’s teams hosted by the AD Officer’s Club.
Honey Thaljiyya, captain of the team, said “the team members overcame many obstacles such as roadblocks and travel difficulties to meet and practice regularly. WPT helped by eliminating from our minds the concerns of funding travel and uniforms. This allowed the team to focus on practicing. We are honored to play under WPT’s sponsorship, and I am proud as a Palestinian woman to be part of this tournament.”
“Our sponsorship of the Palestinian Women’s Football Team demonstrates our commitment to encouraging this kind of activity, and we will do our part to help the team develop in the future,” said Maxim Sansour, WPT’s Public Relations Manager.
WPT’s philosophy of investing in programs and projects that benefit the community is implemented through an active corporate social responsibility effort that has been initiated despite the company not being in full operation. Other activities that WPT has supported include university job fairs pairing new graduates with their first career opportunities and the Palestinian Circus School which engages youth in creative ways.
Samar Araj, the team’s coordinator, said “ WPT sponsorship came at just the right time. We feel that someone is taking care of us and that gives us confidence and the freedom to concentrate on training.”
