Zain, part of the Zain Group, the leading mobile operator in the Middle East and Africa, announced the beginning of the semi final phase of its SHINE competition which the company had launched last March in cooperation with LG mobile, a worldwide technology and design leader in mobile communications. The competition is launched for the sixth consecutive year in 13 schools with the participation of more than 10 thousand students.
Zain’s SHINE competition, promotes and helps discover young talents in the realm of music, academia, arts, and sports. The competition provides a unique opportunity for students to showcase their talents by competing in one of the SHINE competition categories (Music, arts, sports and academia).
LG Mobile, currently sponsoring the competition for the second consecutive year, will offer winning students mobile handsets (LG- GM 200). The GM 200 features are 3.5mm Audio Jack Standard, wireless FM Radio, 2MP camera, amongst others. Prizes will be distributed to over 200 winning students whose names are expected to be announced in June. One prize will be offered to one winning student per level (elementary, secondary, and high school) per school.
Zain CEO, Dr. AbdulMalek Al Jaber said: “The goal behind launching the SHINE competition is to discover young talents and encourage their development during the three month period of the competition.” Al Shatti added that the SHINE judging panel consists of highly professional and knowledgeable members. As such, the judges will offer advice and proper direction to all participants, helping them develop their talents and taking them to the next level.
Managing Director LG Electronics in Levant Kevin Cha said:“We are gratified to sponsor such activities that contribute to discovering the potentials of the school students, as well as encouraging them to develop their capacities and energies. Such initiatives represent a unique experience for the participants by experiencing a real competitive atmosphere which opens a myriad of opportunities for them to take part in competitions of higher levels”.
It is worth noting that, as part of its strategy to support the education sector through supporting schools, Zain was one of the first supporters of the “Madrasati” initiative launched by HM Queen Rania last year. During the first phase of the initiative, the company maintained a number of public schools around Jordan that are among the “Madrasati” list. Zain has also adopted a number of public schools through the INJAZ program. In addition, a number of public schools have been adopted independently, including the renovation of Al Manshieh School in Maan and the “That Al Sawari School” in Aqaba – the largest public school in that governorate.
