Mobilk - In recognition of its role in developing the economy of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has been announced the winner of the 2012 eEconomy award hosted by the eGovernment Authority under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of SCICT.
On the occasion of receiving this award, TRA’s Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Al Amer, said: “We have the honour to have been recognised by winning this award, as we have actively contributed to the development of the Kingdom’s economy through removing all barriers to entry and encouraging local and international inwards investments. Working under an open free-market policy, TRA has put in place a sound regulatory environment which serves as a catalyst for economic growth and drives increased levels of commercial activity and investment. We now have a highly competitive market, comparable with the best in the world, delivering choice, lower prices and diversity of services for consumers and businesses”
TRA’s General Director, Mr. Mohamed Bubashait, said: “The principle of zero restrictions to entry upon which TRA was established in 2002 has significantly contributed to making Bahrain’s telecommunications market one of the most attractive markets in the region, in which international companies are confident to invest. The steps taken by TRA to open up and free the telecommunications sector have protected the interests of subscribers and promoted effective and fair competition in the sector. This has in turn had a significant impact on the growth in revenue, employees, subscribers, and usage of telecommunications services, as well as reductions in prices paid by consumers and businesses.”
Mr. Bubashait went on to say: “This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work of TRA’s team and the dedication to develop a competitive telecommunications market, whilst always ensuring that the Kingdom’s economy remains paramount in our decisions.”
This award is given to Public or Private Organizations that use information and communications technologies in an innovative manner to develop the economic sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The award praises organizations with a robust ICT infrastructure and competent staff that have unique approaches that contribute to the growth of Bahrain’s economy.
TRA won this award following an evaluation of its role in the development of Bahrain’s Economy, contribution towards generating employment for Bahrainis, attracting foreign or local investors to contribute in the economy of Bahrain and implementing robust and mature ICT infrastructure and services.
