Mobilk - Regional winners of Panasonic’s Eco Diary Competition won top honours at the Japanese manufacturer’s global ceremony in Paris France, it was announced today.
This year, Panasonic received more than 130,000 entries from 37 countries. In Paris, students and representatives from 29 countries attended the event, with
KSA’s Filzah Hassan (overall winner from the GCC), Syria’s Amal Shbeeb (overall winner for Levant) and Kenya’s Cassandra Anne Sagina (overall winner for Africa) ranking among the top ten winners of the coveted Eco School Award.
“Winning entries for Panasonic’s Eco Picture Diary Competition are truly inspirational. These students have the awareness to be champions of the environment and help build a sustainable future. The surge in the entries this year also shows that the subject of eco is looked upon with major interest. We have to encourage our children to be environmentally conscious at an early age, and this competition is designed to do exactly that,” said Anthony Peter, Director, Direct Communications & Customer Care (DCCC) Group.
The children, their parents, and teachers who attended the event in Paris, also got the chance to experience Paris, with Panasonic organising tours to iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, and the Palace of Versailles. The global contingent also got to see the UNESCO headquarters, which was the venue for the ceremonies.
In addition, the students learned about global eco challenges and the steps taken to make our world sustainable from the UNESCO director general and Panasonic executives.
The Panasonic Eco Diary Competition is designed to encourage 6-15 year-old children to learn more about protecting the environment. Children have to illustrate and express their eco ideas in writing.
These activities or ideas could include an eco-friendly activity carried out at school or at home.
As part of the competition children were asked to make an Eco Diary that depicted five days of activity. Each diary consisted of a total of five pages of illustrations of their activities and explanations.
Learning about global warming at school, noticing eco bags at supermarkets or observing healthy trees and flowers in local gardens are just some subjects that the children tackled.
The winning ideas can be seen at http://www.panasonic.ae/ecodiary/.
Panasonic strongly believes that teaching values surrounding the subject of a healthy environment at an early age helps to develop a better understanding among children and help them become eco champion of the world.
