His Majesty King Abdullah II granted Zain Jordan "Al Hussein Decoration for Distinguished Contribution, First order, in recognition of the considerable efforts undertaken by the company in serving the Kingdom and its vital role in supporting the local community, through the launch of many initiatives that are within the framework of corporate social responsibility.
The honoring of His Majesty King Abdullah II to Zain alongside key figures from the public and private sectors came in recognition for their relentless efforts in promoting the development of the country, and took place on the occasion of the birthday of His Majesty.
The Royal Court, in an official statement said that Zain deserved the honorary “Al Hussein Decoration for Distinguished Contribution, First order "for its vital role it plays in supporting the local communities, and is considered one of the biggest companies that offer corporate social responsibility programs and initiatives within the Kingdom.
The statement pointed out that the contributions made by Zain in Jordan since its inception amounted to approximately 25 million Jordanian dinars, the most recent was the Teachers’ Housing Project which amounted to approximately 450 thousand Jordanian dinars, in addition to the annual allocation of 42 university educational grants to excelling underprivileged students around Jordan. Zain also raised JD 700 million over the past five years to fight cancer.
Commenting on this honorary medal, the Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of Zain Group, Dr. Saad Al Barrak, said "We take this opportunity to salute His Majesty King Abdullah II for the great efforts he is undertaking for the growth of the economy, which are all in support of the economic and investment sectors of the Kingdom”.
Dr Barrak sincerely thanked His Majesty King Abdullah II of this honorary medal stating that, "There is no doubt that this medal will add much to the company during the course of our work in the Kingdom and will serve as a strong incentive to continue with our plans to strengthen the economic and social development of the Jordanian people”.
Dr Barrak pointed out that Zain will spare no effort in taking on social initiatives in various fields stemming from its responsibility towards the Jordanian citizen and strong belief in providing the necessary tools to support the areas of health and education.
For his part, Zain Jordan’s General Manager Dr. Ahmed Al-Shatti expressed the company's pride in receiving this honor which comes in recognition of the company's efforts in community service.
Dr Al Shatti thanked His Majesty for this honorary medal and appreciation and said, "We have already been honored by His Majesty King Abdullah II when he visited the company's headquarters in 2006, and today after more than two years we receive yet another honor in recognition of the company's efforts in community service, which demonstrates the vision of the wise leadership of this country in terms of rewarding efforts and innovative work."
He added, "Zain’s vision is based on innovation, development, making a difference and a belonging to society which is embodied in its slogan "A wonderful world".
Dr Al Shatti stressed that Zain’s approach over the past years included the development of the domestic telecommunications sector and the introduction of the latest technology to the Kingdom and the provision of services and offers to meet the needs of different segments of society played a key role in the community service and the support of the development process in the Kingdom.
It is noteworthy to mention that Zain’s corporate social responsibility policy focuses on supporting education and training for the advancement of the national economy, and the company adopts many initiatives in these areas, most notably the Zain scholarship that provides 42 grants annually to excelling underprivileged students around Jordan who lack the financial means to pursue their education.
Zain has provided 143 scholarships in the past five years since the founding of the Zain Education Fund, as well as launching the Zain’s Mobile Maintenance Centre for the maintenance of mobile handsets. The company is also a main supporter of the "Madrasati" initiative for the maintenance and development of governmental schools which was launched by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah.
In supporting the youth, Zain is the main supporter of Jordanian sports and plays a vital role in the discovery and development of youth, through the Zain basketball teams and the sponsoring of Al Faisali and Wehdat teams as well Zain’s “Harat” Initiative to develop the soccer skills for young talents in underprivileged area around Jordan.
