Orange Jordan, the sole integrated telecom operator in the Kingdom, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Aqaba Water Company by which Orange will provide the company with fixed, mobile, and internet services in addition to a special data network (IP VPN).
The signing took place during a press conference held in Aqaba, chaired by Ms. Nayla Khawam, CEO of Jordan Telecom Group/Orange, and attended by Mr. Sami Smeirat, Vice President / Chief Executive Officer of the Enterprise Business Unit at the Group. The MOU was signed by Ms. Khawam who had earlier visited the Orange sales center in Aqaba, and by Engineer Imad Zureikat, General Manager of Aqaba Water Company.
Under the MOU, Orange will also provide free fiber-optic technology to Aqaba Water Company in addition to advanced solutions to its different applications. Commenting on this, Ms. Khawam said: "We are excited to provide integrated telecommunications services to the Aqaba Water Company, the only company that provides water and sanitation services in Aqaba. The company has confidence that the quality of our services will lead to more efficiency and speed in conducting their business.”
Khawam explained that the Business Unit at Orange Jordan continuously works to create innovative telecom solutions to suit all companies that fall under the umbrella of this Unit, whether small, medium or large ones.
Following the initial planning phase, the two companies will work closely together to meet the telecom needs of the Aqaba Water Company: contribute towards the success of key projects such as controlling operating the Disi’s wells and link other locations the company is handling outside Aqaba with its headquarters in Aqaba.
For his part, Al Zureikat said: "We have chosen Orange for its world-class reputation and extensive experience in the world of telecommunications in addition to being the sole provider of integrated telecom solutions in the local market. At Aqaba Water Company, we utilize the most advanced technology to support our provision of water for drinking, agriculture and other uses. "
The agreement with AWC comes in line with Orange’s introduction of broadband internet in the south. This first of its kind offer for the Governorates of Karak, Ma’an, Tafileh and Aqaba allows subscribers to enjoy the highly reduced prices for internet at 128 KB, 512 KB and 1 Mbps speeds.
Khawam commented: "The launch of this offer confirms our commitment to achieving the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II in spreading the internet culture in all regions of the Kingdom.” She went on to explain that Orange, and according to its strategy, constantly seeks to reduce the prices for internet to enable all citizens to acquire and enjoy this high quality service.
