Zain, part of the Zain Group, the leading mobile operator in the Middle East and Africa, signed last week, an agreement with “Masar” through to provide banking services for customers through their mobile handsets. The new service manifests a technological breakthrough in Jordan and in the field of mobile banking services.
With the new service, Zain will offer its customers, who exceed 2.5 million, special benefits that will help reduce their time and effort, through their mobile handsets. Said handset will become a mobile monetary wallet for through which they can pay their bills at big shopping centers. This service will later expand to enable customers to pay their bills; including water and electricity.
Customers will initially be able to create an account on the Zain network through which will allow them to send money to another mobile handset which the receiving party can cash at any of Zain’s main showrooms in Jordan. This will later expand to include all active point of sales in the country.
Zain’s customers from the expatriate community will also enjoy the ability to send money, internationally, through their mobile handsets. At a later stage, they will also enjoy direct money wiring service which they will perform from their bank account to their mobile handsets and also to pay for public transportation and patrol stations through their mobile handsets.
Zain CEO Dr. Abdul Malek Al Jaber said: “This groundbreaking service will change the overall perception of mobile handsets for our customers”, who added that launching this service is an attestation of the company’s ongoing commitment to develop the local infrastructure, given our position as the leading mobile operator in Jordan. It also reflects Zain’s continuous promises to meet the evolving needs of our customers. “The company has been working to launch this service for a year alongside the Central Bank of Jordan and has met all their conditions” al Jaber said.
Masar General Manager Majed al Asaad said that the new service will provide technological solutions of highest standards with high levels of security and flexibility. Al Asaad expressed his pride in the partnership and looks forward to seeing this services change the lives of users and the perception of mobile handsets in Jordan.
