Amman, January 16, 2010- Zain, part of Zain Group, the leading mobile operator in the Middle East and Africa, celebrated Tree day by planting over 150 trees alongside the 500 trees that were planted and had grown over the past two years. The event took place at the Zain Forest which the company adopted in Jerash around two years ago upon signing an agreement with the Tree Protection Association and under the auspice of the ministries of Environment and Agriculture.
The initiative is part of a larger plan adopted by Zain to protect and work towards an environment-friendly operating atmosphere, and a greener Jordan in general.
Zain's CEO, Dr. Abdul El Malek Al-Jaber, stressed on the company's commitment and support towards environment-related projects; as part of the company's priorities. Zain, the first telecommunication company to receive the ISO 14000 certification for environmental management, operates within specific environmental standards. For example, the company's wastes are separated based on substance (plastics, papers, batteries) and set aside for recycling. Furthermore, solar energy is used for heating purposes, and water taps work on sensors to avoid the overconsumption of this valuable resource.
Environmental preservation falls under Zain's larger Corporate Social Responsibility program, which reinforces the duties held by corporations towards their country at both individual and collective levels.
