In February, as part of its commitment to provide its customers with the latest telecom technology, Zain KSA registered a global first when, on February 14, 2010, it inked an agreement with Motorola, Ericsson and Huawei, the three global telecommunications infrastructure giants, to build the world’s largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in the Kingdom, with phase one of the 4G LTE roll-out in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Al Khobar.
Following the signing ceremony, Ismael Fikree, Zain KSA Chief Operations Officer, said the move heralded the arrival of cutting edge technology that can transmit huge amounts of data cheaper and with less power, making it the future for broadband services.
Advanced LTE can accommodate multimedia applications such as video conferencing, high definition content transmission, video diary administration and high speed video downloads from social networks, giving Zain KSA customers unbeatable mobile broadband.
Fikree added that LTE also provides 150 Mb/s outputs with a delay period of no more than 15 milliseconds, providing subscribers with a unique mobile broadband experience that exceeds that of the fixed connections they have at home. The low cost of ‘bit’ price via LTE means that applications that need more broadband will be cheaper for operators to run.
He added that the massive project is another demonstration of Zain’s commitment to provide the latest technology for its customers and keep pace with global trends in its bid to be the Kingdom’s No. 1 mobile telecom provider.
