Nawras customers are helping the people of Gaza by giving generously through SMS donations and this week the total contribution to-date was handed over to the Oman Charitable Organisation for assistance in the relief effort from the Sultanate. Nawras CEO Ross Cormack presented the cheque to Ali Ibrahim Al-Raisi, Executive Chairman, Oman Charitable Organisation (OCO) during a meeting at the Nawras main office in Al Athaiba.
“Our customers want to support their brothers and sisters in Gaza and we are more than happy to help by providing an easy and convenient means for them to do this. We continue to welcome donations and will ensure that all funds collected go directly to the OCO. Nawras does not make any charge for these charitable SMS,” said Cormack.
Ali Ibrahim Al-Raisi replied by saying: "Oman Charitable Organisation is delighted to thank Nawras customers, management and employees for their contribution in social and humanitarian programmes. Today we are receiving the first of customers' donations to support their brothers in Gaza, which shows the fast actions of Nawras customers to support this charitable work.
“OCO put out a plan of three phases to help Gaza people. Phase one was completed during the first week of the crisis by sending 253 tons of food, medical supplies and basic commodities to meet people’s basic life needs. Now we are on the second phase, with OCO collecting donations to support social programmes for the people of Gaza at this difficult time. We are also studying our next type of support to see how it can be most effective. Finally, I would like to thank Nawras customers for their support for Gaza and may Allah accept their acts of kindness.”
Early last month, Nawras began providing a channel for customers to make a personal donation to help and support the people of Gaza.
There is still an opportunity to give. Customers can contribute at any time by sending an SMS with the keyword DONATE to 90909. Each SMS for 200 Baizas is donated in full to the Palestinian people via the OCO. Customers can continue to send as many SMS as they would like to.
Nawras employees also showed their support for this humanitarian appeal. Voluntary donations were deducted from salaries and passed on to directly benefit the people of Gaza.
Nawras is a caring company with an active corporate social responsibility programme which extends far and wide. The most well-known initiative is the Nawras Goodwill Journey which takes places annually during Ramadan. A convoy of vehicles, manned by company volunteers, travels the length and breadth of the country delivering donations and spending time with those attending and working in Oman’s charities.
Nawras currently covers 97% of the population with its world-class network, using national roaming where necessary and always with Nawras great value.
