du, the new telecom operator in the UAE, today announced the launch of Freetime, a first of its kind promotion in the UAE, that is set to revolutionize the UAE telecom market. Freetime generates free credit for du mobile users every time they make an international call to any destination.
For every 1 second of international call made, the customer gets 1 fils worth of FREE credit back i.e. for a one minute call they get 60 fils worth of FREE credit.
This effectively means that a customer gets to save as much as 60% on the international call rates depending on the country they are calling and the time they are calling (i.e. whether during peak hours or offpeak hours).
The promotion, which starts on 31 July and ends on 10 Sep 2007, will be applicable to all mobile line customers - Pay as you Go (prepaid) Monthly Plan (postpaid) and Visitor Mobile Line customers, during peak and off-peak times. The promotion does not include international calls made while Roaming in other countries.
Outlining the rationale behind the promotion, Osman Sultan, CEO du, said: "du has established a trend of introducing firsts to the UAE and we are delighted to continue that with the Freetime offer. This cost-saving scheme further underscores the value we place on each second used in communicating with loved ones, no matter how far away. Our customers now get the added benefit
of actually building up their credit as they keep in touch with friends and family abroad."
While the Pay as you Go and Visitor Mobile lines will instantly get their credit after each call, to be used whenever and wherever they want, the Monthly Plan will get their credit in their billand will be deducted from the total amount due.
All customers have to do to get this service is call the toll-free Self-Care number 135 and choose the option 6 to activate their Freetime. The credit will be accumulated at the rate of 1fils per second of usage.
Customers who are already enjoying discounted Me and Mine rates will also benefit from the Freetime credit.
The table below demonstrates with a few representative countries the additional benefits that consumers would accrue out of this ‘Freetime' promotion.
