MoU Signed to Begin Development of Mobile Applications to Conveniently Calculate and Contribute
Etisalat announced an initiative to develop an exclusive service to permit customers to calculate and pay their Zakat contributions via a mobile phone. This is a unique proposition and will be the first time a software package has been developed to support the practice of Zakat.
The initiative was launched through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Zakat Fund in Abu Dhabi. The MoU was signed by Essa Al Haddad, Chief Marketing Officer, Etisalat and Abdullah Al Muheiri, The Fund's Secretary General, Zakat Fund.
Etisalat will develop its various related services such as Weyak and PCPM, to provide customers with interesting and rich information regarding the Zakat Fund and its activities.
Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam, Muslims should pay a certain percentage of their wealth to specified categories in society when their annual wealth exceeds a minimum level.
Ahmed Rahemy, a student that competed in the Etisalat University College’s 2006 National Mobile Application Contest developed the concept for a Zakat software payment solution. The Zakat Fund supported the student to develop the project in terms of the Islamic rules.
