  • Nawras partners with Modern College of Business and Science to launch new telecommunications course

Mobilk - Nawras has entered into a five-year partnership with Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS), launching a new Telecommunications Programme – the first of its kind in the Sultanate. The course will facilitate and improve the training of students in an industry sector that demands world class capabilities and expertise.

The one-year programme will also allow the undergraduate students to gain valuable work experience during their studies, which will help them to advance their careers more rapidly, once they finish their studies.

Kumail Al Moowasi, Director of People at Nawras said, “Joining forces with MCBS allows us to engage directly with the community and support the development of a highly trained and talented group of professionals that will lead the telecoms industry in the future. The students will gain direct exposure to industry best practices and get to grips with the issues related to telecommunications operations in Oman and around the region.  Through these efforts we hope to help shape a pioneering programme that seeks a greater involvement of industry in the training and development of Oman’s future telecommunications professionals.”

Throughout the partnership, Nawras will provide valuable consultation to make sure the course is up to date and provides the training needed in a fast-moving sector. Moving forward, Nawras will further support and enhance learning from the course through internships and work experience, while the MCBS academic faculty will study and identify areas of cooperation in research beneficial to the telecoms sector.

Commenting on the partnership, Professor Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Naamany, Dean of MCBS, said: “Modern College of Business and Science is a private institution that offers a variety of programs designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to excel in the workplace. Our aim is to produce highly sought-after job-ready graduates. The industry today requires professionals whose skills supersede traditional academic training.”

Commenting specifically on the MOU with Nawras he said: “We are pleased to be working with Nawras in this initiative. It is the first of its kind in the Sultanate and by engaging our students directly with industry experts, the programme will help students apply and expand their knowledge. This in turn will boost and ground their learning. Direct input from industry is extremely valuable to our students and to the institution, and we will carefully monitor the progress of each candidate to identify suitable and promising interns, so that give both parties maximum value from the partnership.”

In line with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos’ Vision 2020, to develop a sustainable workforce, Nawras has established an internship programme that offers students work experience at one of the Sultanate’s largest companies. To that end, the company works closely with the education sector to support their programmes by using technology to strengthen the company’s long-term commitment to helping the youth of Oman reach their potential and prepare for the next step in their journey.
