In a first for mobile phones in the region, the Google search engine will now be available through the Mozaic MOB portal from Qtel.
Users can click on Google straight from the Mozaic homepage, providing them with access to information wherever they are in the world.
By adding the most popular search engine in the world to the portal, Mozaic MOB is significantly increasing the functionality and depth of features available to users. The service had indexed over 1 trillion unique pages by July 2008, reflecting the enormous ongoing growth and richness of content on the internet.
Users in Qatar have already conducted over 25,000 searches using Mozaic MOB.
Adel Al Mutawa, Executive Director of Group Communications, Qtel, said: “We are delighted to reach this agreement with Google, and so bring one of the biggest names on the internet to the Mozaic MOB portal. Users will benefit enormously from direct access to the Google search engine, and we’re confident it will be a hugely popular offering.”
Access to Google through the Mozaic MOB service will be free of charge to subscribers. Once the user enters the Google search portal, standard roaming charges will apply.
The agreement with Qtel also marks another important stride forward for Google in the Middle East. The company has added a range of features and functionality specifically for the regional market in 2008.
Mozaic MOB is the innovative portal created and maintained by Qtel to provide users with access to the most advanced digital content anywhere in the world.
A recent report from the Arab Advisors Group, “3G Cellular Services in the Arab World,” positioned Qatar among the leading countries in the region for providing 3G cellular services.
